Display Meteoblue pro weather in GuideMate

Meteoblue is a Swiss weather forecasting service renowned for the quality of its mountain models. By adding your API key in GuideMate, you unlock:

• Meteoblue weather on every activity location (instead of Open-Meteo)
• 5-day meteograms — detailed hour-by-hour chart
• 14-day meteograms — long-range trend

Without an API key, GuideMate uses Open-Meteo (free, open source) for basic forecasts.

1. Create a Meteoblue account

1. Go to meteoblue.com/en/access/api
2. Click Sign up and create your account
3. Confirm your email

2. Get your API key

1. Log in to your Meteoblue account
2. Go to API > My API keys (direct link)
3. Click Generate new key
4. Copy the displayed key (it looks like a1B2c3D4e5F6g7H8)

Good to know: when you create your account, Meteoblue gives you 10 million credits. A text weather call costs ~4,000 credits, a meteogram image ~16,000 credits. With normal guide usage (a few lookups per day), the initial credits last several months. After that, you can top up credits on their pricing page.

3. Add the key in GuideMate

1. Open GuideMate on your phone
2. Go to Profile > Integrations
3. Scroll down to the Meteoblue section
4. Paste your API key in the designated field
5. Tap Save

Your key is stored only on your phone — it is never sent to our servers.

4. Use the meteograms

Once the key is configured, open any activity page with a location set:

1. Expand the Weather & Conditions section
2. Under the text forecasts, two new buttons appear: Meteoblue 5d and Meteoblue 14d
3. Tap one of them to display the meteogram full screen (zoomable)
4. Use the refresh button to get the latest data

Meteograms are cached for 2 hours on your phone to limit your API quota usage.

FAQ

Does it work offline? Previously viewed meteograms are available offline for 2 hours. Text forecasts too.

Can I remove my key? Yes, clear the field in Integrations and save. GuideMate will automatically fall back to Open-Meteo.

How much does it cost? Meteoblue gives you 10 million credits when you sign up. A meteogram costs ~16,000 credits, weather data ~4,000 credits. GuideMate caches results for 2 hours to limit usage. For a guide who checks a few activity pages per day, the initial credits last several months. When they run out, you can top up on the Meteoblue website.
